SEOUL, July 8 (Yonhap) -- Actors Lee Dong-gun, Kim Jong-kook, and Lee Sang-min, currently starring in the SBS variety show "My Little Old Boy," are seen hesitantly visiting a plastic surgery clinic.

Lee Sang-min shows the doctor a photo of his prime, stating he frequently notices his face and feels discomfort, particularly with his double chin. The doctor suggests liposuction under the chin and thread lifting, presenting a virtual image of the post-surgery look. Lee Sang-min agrees to the surgery immediately and later appears with his face heavily bandaged.

On the 7th, it was reported that more celebrities are openly confessing to undergoing plastic surgery or revealing the detailed process. On "My Little Old Boy," the cast members visit a plastic surgery clinic for consultations together. Lee Sang-min is concerned about his double chin, while Lee Dong-gun discusses his worries about under-eye bags and dark circles. The doctor recommends fat redistribution and fat grafting for Lee Dong-gun.

The show not only includes the consultation but also the actual surgery and immediate aftermath. Lee Sang-min decides to proceed with the surgery on the spot, with markings drawn on his chin for liposuction, and changes into surgical attire before lying on the operating table. The broadcast captures his swollen face as he returns home post-surgery. Lee Sang-min's bandaged appearance became a hot topic among viewers, eliciting reactions ranging from "He looks cute" to "I never thought I’d see a celebrity getting plastic surgery on a variety show" and "If it works well, I want to try it too."

In the past, celebrities often hid the fact that they had plastic surgery, taking breaks from public appearances to recover. However, recently, some stars are candidly sharing their surgery experiences and the process. Compared to traditional broadcasts, platforms like YouTube allow for more open discussions.

Jang Young-ran garnered attention by revealing her eye surgery on her YouTube channel with a video titled "First Celebrity to Publicly Share Plastic Surgery Process (Reason for Surgery, 14 Days Post-Op Changes)." Jang has since discussed her eye surgery on various programs, mentioning on the YouTube channel "Vivo TV" that it was her fourth eye surgery and recommending the procedure for its functional benefits, despite initial discomfort. She also noted that she felt more comfortable on "Knowing Bros" after the surgery.

Comedian couple Paeng Hyun-sook and Choi Yang-rak also revealed their plastic surgery experiences on their YouTube channel "Salon Drip 2." Paeng shared that her husband had become somewhat addicted to plastic surgery, having had double eyelid surgery twice and lifting procedures. She praised the results, saying it was like seeing his younger self again. Choi detailed his lifting surgery process and recovery on his own channel "Choi Yang-rak’s Heehee Yangrak."

Actress Han Ye-seul confessed to undergoing plastic surgery on Coupang Play’s variety show "SNL Korea Season 5," humorously offering advice to another cast member about breast surgery.

While plastic surgery is a personal choice, especially for celebrities who often prioritize their appearance, there are concerns about the societal impact of such confessions. Kwak Geum-joo, a psychology professor at Seoul National University, warned that frequent open discussions about plastic surgery on TV might lead to a societal perception that these procedures are trivial. She noted the potential for a harmful trend among youth, who might incorrectly assume that modern plastic surgery is inconsequential, highlighting the need for caution due to possible side effects.
