SEOUL, Feb. 21 (Yonhap) -- An eagle, whose life was in danger due to pesticide poisoning, was rescued and flew back into the sky after receiving precise treatment.

Sejong City sent an eagle back to the arms of mother nature from agricultural land in Bodeok village on Monday.

The eagle was found unable to fly on Feb. 27 and since then was treated at the Chungnam Wildlife Rescue Center in Yesan. When first spotted, the Center determined that the eagle was already at stage 2 of poisoning due to pesticides through the diagnosis of its symptoms, and then removed pesticide contaminants step-by-step from its vulture vesicle.

After two weeks of rehabilitation and flight training, the eagle was finally sent bak to the wild. Eagles are classified as Class II Endangered Wildlife and also as Natural Monument No.243-1.

“There are many farmlands and rivers situated all over Sejong City, which naturally become a stop-by for many endangered birds,” said Yoo Jae-yeon, the head of the animal hygiene and quarantine department of the City. “Our citizens’ continued interest and efforts are what can preserve these migratory birds.”
