SEOUL, Oct. 23 (Yonhap) -- The 2024 Asia Song Festival × Culture Itgeo will take place from October 26 to 27 at Yeouido Hangang Park in Seoul, South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange announced on Wednesday.
The Asia Song Festival, which began in 2004, is a music festival aimed at promoting friendship between Asian countries. The main event will be held on October 26 at 6 p.m. on the Mulbit Stage in Yeouido Hangang Park.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the festival, and it will feature performances by artists from various countries, special programs reflecting on K-pop’s history, and interactive exhibitions. All tickets sold out within five minutes of pre-sale opening.
The festival will bring together 10 teams from seven countries: Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and a special invitation from Jamaica. Participating Korean acts include fromis_9, QWER, 8TURN, and Balming Tiger. International performers include Indonesia’s Afghan, Japan’s Tomioka Ai, Jamaica’s Jah Lil, Wim from Thai group Hypes, and the Philippines’ Dionela. Additionally, 8TURN and Vietnam's My Anh will collaborate for a joint performance.
The dance team DAOL will present cover dances from 12 groups, spanning from BoA, the festival’s first performer, to current K-pop groups, highlighting 20 years of K-pop history.
The event will also feature Culture Itgeo, a global cultural experience festival showcasing performances, exhibitions, food, and traditional clothing from various countries. This year’s focus will be on the Philippines and Jamaica, with cultural experiences held at the Mulbit Stage area from October 26 to 27. Attendees can experience the traditional Filipino Tinikling dance against a Boracay beach backdrop in the Philippine Village and learn dancehall moves in the Jamaican Village with a reggae town setting.
On October 27 at 4 p.m., Korean reggae group Rivers of Peace (Skull & Haha) will perform a collaborative show with Jamaican artist Jah Lil.
Choi Bo-geun, head of the International Cultural Promotion Policy Division at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, “We hope that through music and culture, many countries will deepen mutual understanding and cultural empathy.”
