SEOUL, March 27 (Yonhap) -- The agency of actor Kim Soo-hyun said Wednesday that the detention of Kim Se-ui, head of the controversial YouTube channel HoverLab, has finally paved the way for the truth to be proven through legal procedures and a thorough investigation.
Gold Medalist, Kim Soo-hyun's agency, issued a statement saying, "We deeply appreciate the efforts of the investigative authorities for uncovering the truth based on objective evidence."
Kim Se-ui is accused of spreading false claims through YouTube and other platforms alleging that Kim Soo-hyun dated late actress Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor and that pressure from the actor over debt repayment directly caused her death.
He is also accused of defaming Kim Soo-hyun by using artificial intelligence technology to manipulate Kim Sae-ron's voice.
The Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for Kim Se-ui on Tuesday following a pretrial detention hearing, citing concerns that he could destroy evidence or flee.
Gold Medalist claimed that the various allegations and evidence presented by HoverLab against Kim Soo-hyun were found to be false, adding that the court acknowledged the seriousness of charges including defamation and intimidation.
The agency also referred to Kim Soo-hyun's press conference held a year ago, during which the actor said, "I won't ask you to simply trust me. I will prove it."
"The past year for Kim Soo-hyun has been devoted solely to keeping that promise," the agency said. "We sincerely thank everyone who trusted and waited for him."
At the March 2025 press conference, Kim Soo-hyun admitted that he had dated Kim Sae-ron but denied allegations that she had been a minor at the time. He later filed complaints against Kim Se-ui and Kim Sae-ron's bereaved family on charges including defamation over the spread of false information.
