SEOUL, Mar. 8 (Yonhap) -- The cast for the fourth season of “Musical Gwangju,” which tells the historic Gwangju Uprising, has been unveiled. The historical Musical gave narratives to all 28 roles to honor the loyalty and sacrifice of ordinary citizens.

The Gwangju Cultural Foundation announced on Tuesday the five local musical actors who have been cast through an open audition.

The production company formerly opened entries for an open audition for the roles of Jang Sam-nyeon and male and female Gwangju citizens. Among the 89 actors who applied for the roles, five actors, including Koo Ja-eon, Na Seung-hyun, Lee Soo-jung, Cho Bae-geun, and Hwang Soo-bin, were finally named to take the roles.

Cho will take turns with the original cast Won Woo-jun to perform on stage as Jang Sam-neyon, a student who studies at night and delivers newspapers in the morning.

Koo and Hwang will play the Gwangju Citizen Army, while Na and Lee will play the Gwangju citizens.

The five local musical actors will join hands with musical actors Kim Jin-wook and Kim Soo, who have been actively performing in the musical industry. In the meantime, Kim Chan-ho, who was on the premiere stage, will play the role of Yoon E-geon, a night school teacher that represents the independence activist Yoon Sang-won. Hyo-eun and Choi Ji-hye have also been double-cast in the role of fellow night school teacher Moon Soo-kyung.

The fourth season of this period musical will be put on stage a total of 9 times from May 16 to 21 at the Bitgoeul Civic Culture Center.

An official from the Gwangju Cultural Foundation said, “All applicants that registered for the open audition showed off their exquisite acting and singing skills,” adding, “We hope our musical would further create more opportunities for local artists and young people.”
