SEOUL, July 21 (Yonhap) -- Director Lee Chang-dong's new film "Possible Love" has been invited to the Toronto International Film Festival, set to take place in Toronto, Canada, from Sept. 10-20.

 

Netflix said Monday that "Possible Love" has been selected for the Special Presentations section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival.

 

The Special Presentations section showcases new works by internationally acclaimed directors and actors. Previous Korean films invited to the section include "Parasite" (2019), "Decision to Leave" (2022), "The Handmaiden" (2016) and "The Age of Shadows" (2016). Last year, director Byun Sung-hyun's Netflix film "Good News" was also screened in the section.

 

"Possible Love" marks Lee's first feature film in eight years since "Burning" (2018). The film follows two married couples who meet while making a documentary and confront their hidden desires.

 

The film has also attracted attention for its cast, which includes Jeon Do-yeon, Sol Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung and Cho Yeo-jeong.

 

"'Possible Love' is a powerful film that thoughtfully explores marriage, class and cinema itself," Toronto International Film Festival CEO Cameron Bailey said. "It once again confirms Lee Chang-dong's reputation as one of the greatest filmmakers of our time."

 

"Lee is an artist of both extraordinary power and remarkable subtlety," Bailey added. "It has been a great honor to welcome him to Toronto on several occasions, both as a filmmaker and as a juror."

 

Lee previously presented "Oasis" (2002) and "Secret Sunshine" (2007) at the Toronto festival and served as a jury member in the festival's competition section in 2018.
