SEOUL, July 21 (Yonhap) -- "F1: The Movie," a racing film starring Brad Pitt, reclaimed the top spot at the weekend box office, buoyed by positive word-of-mouth.

According to the Korean Film Council's box office data released Monday, director Joseph Kosinski’s "F1: The Movie" drew over 332,000 moviegoers between July 18 and 20, returning to No. 1 at the box office.

The film follows the story of Sonny (played by Brad Pitt), a washed-up 60-something racer who gets behind the wheel of a Formula One car after more than three decades.

Premiering on June 25, the film debuted at No. 1 but slipped to fourth place in the following two weekends, outpaced by titles such as "Jurassic World: New Dawn," "Noise," and "Superman."

However, its performance rebounded, and its cumulative admissions surpassed 1.87 million as of Sunday, putting it within reach of the 2-million mark.

Ranking second over the weekend was Korean animated feature "King of Kings," which has been making waves in North America, with approximately 303,000 admissions.

Third place went to the animated film "Detective Conan: The Silhouette Remains" with around 207,000 viewers, followed by "Jurassic World: New Dawn," starring Scarlett Johansson, in fourth with 199,000.

The horror-thriller "Noise," starring Lee Sun-bin, placed fifth with 191,000 weekend viewers. Its total admissions now stand at 1.48 million, nearing the 1.5 million milestone.
