SEOUL, December 29 (Yonhap) -- The prosecution appealed the acquittal of Yang Hyun-suk, a former executive producer (CEO) of YG Entertainment, on charges of "threatening retaliation."

The prosecution submitted an appeal to the 23rd Criminal Agreement Department (Chief Judge Cho Byung-koo) of the Seoul Central District Court on December 28. It is known that the appeal was made that the acknowledgement of actual facts and interpretation of law was done in an incorrect way in the first trial.

Former CEO Yang was indicted on charges of conciliating and threatening A (such as threats of retaliation under the Special Act) to cover up the investigation when a trainee, who was arrested on drug charges, stated charges of purchasing drugs by B.I (BI, Kim Han-bin), a former member of the idol group "iKON."

A told the court that former CEO Yang called him to the YG Entertainment office building and urged him to reverse his statement against B.I, saying, "It's not a big deal to kill one of you."

However, the court acquitted Yang on December 22, saying, "It is difficult to trust the victim's statement, and there is insufficient evidence to believe that the defendant threatened with specific and direct harm."

The court pointed out that it is suspicious that the police might have gave an indication of leading in a specific direction during the investigation stage, given that A's statement changed over time.

The prosecution is expected to submit additional evidence to support the credibility of the victim's statement in the court of appeal.
