SEOUL, Aug. 12 (Yonhap) -- Visitors will be able to stroll through Gyeongbok Palace at night and experience the atmosphere of a Joseon-era royal palace through a special cultural program starting next month, the Korea Heritage Service said Wednesday.

 

The KHS's Royal Palaces and Tombs Center and the Korea Heritage Agency will host "Gyeongbokgung Starlight Night" every Wednesday through Sunday from Sept. 2 to Oct. 24.

 

Guided by a court lady, participants will tour Gyejodang, a space used by the crown prince during the Joseon Dynasty, and enjoy a boxed meal recreating a royal banquet at the palace kitchen known as Oesojubang.

After the meal, visitors can freely explore various parts of Gyeongbok Palace.

 

At Jibokjae, which is known to have been used as King Gojong's library, a traditional Korean opera performance featuring stories about the king will be presented.

 

Visitors can also walk along Hyangwonjeong Pavilion and Chwihyanggyo Bridge to experience a different side of Gyeongbok Palace from its daytime atmosphere.

 

The program will be held twice a day, with participation determined through a lottery.

 

Applications can be submitted through Ticketlink from 2 p.m. Aug. 14 to 2 p.m. Aug. 20. Those selected can then choose their preferred date and session to purchase tickets.

 

People aged 65 or older, people with disabilities, national merit honorees and holders of national veterans registration cards can make reservations by phone at 1588-7890 from 2 p.m. Aug. 28.

 

The program is not free.
