SEOUL, November 17 (Yonhap)-- Wavve's original drama "Weak Hero Class 1," which depicts the story of student violence, promised intense action scenes.
Director Yoo Su-min, actors Park Ji-hoon, Choi Hyun-wook, Hong-kyung, and more showed confidence in their action scenes at the press conference they held on November 16 at CGV Yongsan, in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
"Weak Hero" is a drama adapted from the webtoon of the same title, depicting Yeon Shi-eun (Park Ji-hoon), one of the smartest students at school, becoming friends with Suho (Choi Hyun-wook) and Beomseok (Hong-kyung), and fighting against the violence happening inside and outside school.
"It is an academy action movie drawing the growing pains of the three friends," director Yoo said of the film.
The drama stars rookies such as Park Ji-hoon, an actor and singer from the group Wanna One, Choi Hyun-wook, Hongkyung, and more. All of the cast agreed that they put their full effort into the action scenes.
Park Ji-hoon said, "I had to train myself at an action school for 3~4 months because this is my first action drama," continuing, "I studied the action that goes well with my character as I was developing my physical strength."
He added, "I considered about how Shi-eun hit people and what kind of a face he would make while doing so because I think emotion is important even while working on actions," he explained, "I tried my best to look cold hearted even when hitting someone."
Choi Hyun-wook also said, "I wanted to do well because it was my first action drama," adding, "Character Su-ho is someone who did martial arts for a long time, so I focused on that point.
He continued, "There are action scenes done in collaboration, but there are also action scenes that are emotional, short, but impressive." All eight episodes of the drama were rated R due to their high level of violence.
Director Yoo said, "We can't help but keep it r-rated because some harmful contents are included in this drama," adding, "Everyone in their 20s, 30s, and 40s (major viewers) have been to school, so everyone can relate."
One of the enjoyable features of the drama is that everyone in the drama are going through different growing pains.
Park Ji-hoon explained, "Shi-eun is a lonely person. He becomes more human as he makes friends at school."
Hong-kyung said, "Beomseok is a friend who transferred after going through a hard time at his previous school," adding, "I focused on how this timid, yet vocal, character changes throughout the journey."
