SEOUL, May 31 (Yonhap) -- Singer Gill was questioned by police as a witness in relation to Kim Ho-joong's hit-and-run drunk driving incident, his agency announced on the 30th. However, Gill's agency strongly denied claims that he assisted Kim's drunk driving, urging the public to refrain from unfounded speculation.
In a press release, MLD Entertainment stated, "Many media outlets are mentioning Gill in connection with Kim Ho-joong's incident, with some even speculating that Gill might have assisted Kim's drunk driving. We earnestly request that such unfounded reports and claims be stopped."
The agency further explained, "Gill responded to the police's request for witness testimony and provided all information he knew based on his recollection. He is a witness, not a suspect, in Kim Ho-joong's case, and the police have confirmed that there are no charges against him."
On the previous day, Channel A's "Powerful Team 4" aired CCTV footage showing Gill getting out of the car driven by Kim Ho-joong. The program suggested that the police might investigate Gill for assisting in drunk driving.
The agency remarked, "Gill is aware that being involved in such an incident could subject him to public criticism. He cooperated fully with the police and requested confidentiality regarding his status as a witness."
They added, "Broadcasting or reporting false information under the guise of possibility inflicts unbearable pain on the artist."
On May 9th, at around 11:40 p.m., Kim Ho-joong collided with a taxi on a road in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam, Seoul, and fled the scene, later admitting to drunk driving. Before the incident, Kim visited a screen golf facility with his agency's representative and three others. He reportedly drank at a restaurant and a bar before driving again and causing the accident.
