SEOUL, Mar. 3 (Yonhap) – Pianist Bruce Liu (26), who won the 18th Chopin Competition for the first time in Canada, is to visit Korea.
The performance agency Mast Media has announced on Thursday that it will hold Bruce Liu’s first recital in Korea at the Concert Hall of the Seoul Arts Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul on the 4th. Following the Seoul performance, the audience will also meet at the Daleseo Art Center in Daegu on the 8th, the Busan Cultural Center on the 10th, and the Ansan Culture and Arts Center in Gyeonggi Province on the 11th.
Bruce Liu, a native of a Chinese immigrant family in Canada, has drawn attention by winning International Chopin Piano Competition in 2021, six years after Cho Seong-jin won in 2015. The Chopin Competition, held every five years in Warsaw, Poland, was held in 2021 after being delayed by one year due to COVID-19.
He is also known as a disciple of world-renowned pianist Dang Thai Son and drew attention for his accurate performance and novel interpretation during the competition. Last year, he signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon, a world-renowned classical music company, and released a recording of Chopin and Jean-Philippe Rameau’s pieces.
In the first concert in Korea since winning the competition, he is to meet audience with pieces of Chopin, Rameau, and Liszt. He will play Rameau "Les tenders plaintes," "Les Cyclopes," "Minuet," Chopin's sonata No. 2 "Funeral March," and Liszt's "Reminiscences de Don Juan."
Bruce Liu will also be on stage as a collaborator in June at the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, which represents Vienna, Austria.
