LOS ANGELES, Jan. 11 (Yonhap) – The Golden Globe Awards for the U.S. film was disrupted amid Hollywood boycott, but U.S. media focused on “Squid Game” star O Yeong-su receiving the Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Series Award as the main scene of this year’s awards ceremony.
CBS evaluated on Jan. 10(U.S. time), “Without a live television or streaming event, the Golden Globes were quieter than usual this year, but still, some stars made history at the awards ceremony,” adding, “‘Squid Game’ star O Yeong-su became the first Korean actor to win a Golden Globe.”
Reuters reported, “He beat more globally renowned competitors,” while CNN added, “’Squid Game’ star O Yeong-su has made history after becoming the first Korean actor to win a Golden Globe.”
U.S. media also introduced O Yeong-su’s filmography, saying the actor captivated fans by playing the role of Oh Il-nam in Netflix's mega-hit drama “Squid Game.”
CBS mentioned that O Yeong-su is "widely regarded as one of the greatest stage actors in South Korea," adding, “He has appeared in over 200 stage productions and has held television and film roles.”
Forbes gave him a big hand by saying, “The inventive South Korean drama became a runaway hit, quickly earning the honor of being the most popular show in Netflix viewing history. His character was a fan favorite,” adding, “(According to his Golden Globe award) at 78, his career will never be the same.”
