SEOUL, Aug. 12 (Yonhap) -- "During our world tour, we also prepared new stages and an album. We've returned to Seoul after 10 months, and we feel like we've grown a lot. Haha." (Rei)
The girl group IVE took the stage at Seoul's Olympic Park KSPO Dome, often referred to as the "holy ground of K-pop," for an encore concert of their first world tour, "SHOW WHAT I HAVE," marking 2 years and 8 months since their debut. Reflecting their "growth" theme, the six members unveiled new costumes and performances, exceeding their fans' expectations.
During the concert on the 11th, IVE shared, "We've been preparing this encore concert in between our shows to present an upgraded stage. We're happy to meet you again after 10 months." Over the past 10 months, IVE met around 420,000 fans across 27 cities in 19 countries in Asia, the Americas, Europe, and South America.
Beyond their music careers, member Jang Wonyoung has become a leading model for various ads, popularizing the phrase "Wonyoung mindset" with her positive messages, while Ahn Yujin has risen as a "wannabe" figure for the MZ generation with her relatable and humorous personality on TV shows.
Facing a packed venue, IVE made their entrance with the "SHOW WHAT I HAVE" letter-shaped structures. The spotlight caught the beads on their white dresses, making them sparkle. The concert began with their hit song "I AM," famous for its high-pitched chorus, which Ahn Yujin and Liz performed live with powerful vocals, thrilling the audience. Unlike their previous concert, which used pre-recorded backing tracks, this time, the addition of a live band added more energy and intensity to the music, enhancing the overall atmosphere.
Jang Wonyoung commented, "The biggest change in this encore concert is performing with a fantastic band," with Liz adding, "Performing with a band brings synergy and energy."
The members showcased sharp choreography for their debut song "ELEVEN" and exuded a Disney princess-like aura with a heartfelt performance of the ballad "Shine With Me" in front of a pink rose-shaped set.
Reflecting on their world tour, Jang Wonyoung said, "We made many good memories with the members while traveling to various countries and having dinner together. I even saw a beluga whale. It was so cute," she said, mimicking a beluga whale and drawing cheers from the crowd.
IVE also presented rare unit performances, splitting into pairs of Gaeul-Rei, Wonyoung-Liz, and Yujin-Leeseo. During the song "MINE," they rode movable carts around the venue, delighting fans. One surprised fan waved their arms wildly as a member suddenly appeared close by.
As the concert progressed, the audience's enthusiasm heightened with back-to-back performances of their hit songs "LOVE DIVE," "Kitsch," "After LIKE," and "HAVE TO." They also showcased their dark side with a rock-infused version of "Accendio."
Ahn Yujin encouraged the crowd, saying, "Your cheers make us the happiest," while Jang Wonyoung quipped, "It's so hot here today, I think this might be the hottest place in Seoul," adding a playful expression.
IVE concluded the concert with encore songs "WOW," "I WANT," and "All Night."
Living up to their reputation as "elementary school presidents," the area around Olympic Park was bustling with young fans holding their parents' hands, braving the heat, which soared above 30 degrees Celsius. Unlike summer rock festival attendees sipping cold beers or iced coffee, one young fan clung to her father's hand while sipping strawberry milk. Nearby, children eagerly traded IVE photo cards with friends, while their parents fanned themselves with handheld fans to combat the heat.
The young audience members, who had practiced the choreography by watching YouTube, enthusiastically followed the point dances and waved their oversized light sticks in sync with IVE's six members. Next month, IVE will hold encore concerts at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, meeting their fans there.
"We sang ('Shine With Me') in front of a beautiful set, with pink petals gently falling. It was so beautiful. I was happy we were together. It was so moving." (Gaeul)
