SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Yonhap) -- Hallyu star Lee Seung-gi announced to take legal action against people who write malicious comments.

"We will strongly take actions against acts that inflict mental distress or damage Lee Seung-gi's character and reputation without settlement or leniency of any kind," Lee's management agency Hook Entertainment said Thursday on its official website.

"We will also do our best to make sure people take responsibility for their wrongdoings and face criminal penalties as well as seek reasonable civil liability," Hook Entertainment said.

Despite continuously monitoring online comments and seeking countermeasures, the agency stressed that explained that fake news and excessive comments about the actor were not able to be eradicated.

In 2016, Hook Entertainment filed more than 100 complaints against Internet users who wrote malicious comments, and warned to once again take legal action in 2019.

Meanwhile, Lee recently starred in the tvN drama "Mouse" and has been appearing on entertainment programs, including SBS's "All The Butlers," "Team Up 072" and "Loud."
