SEOUL, June 5 (Yonhap) -- Seoul's Seongbuk District said Friday it will host the 18th Seongbuk World Food Festival Nurimasil on Sunday, with embassies from a record 26 countries taking part.
The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. along Seongbuk-ro and is the district's signature multicultural event, introducing diverse cultures and everyday life from around the world through food. More than 70,000 people attend the festival each year.
One of the main programs, "World Food Chefs," will feature embassies from 26 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas presenting their traditional dishes and cultures.
The "Together Food Chefs" zone will include a special climate-friendly food section showcasing ecological and food cultures suited to the era of climate change, including temple cuisine.
The festival will also feature "Seongbuk Best Chefs," with around 20 booths operated by local businesses and organizations, as well as "Star Market," "Star Adventure" and "Star Promotion" areas comprising 20 market, experience and promotional booths. Visitors can also enjoy multicultural activities, traditional games from around the world, parades and performances.
To improve convenience, the district has introduced a QR code-based digital ordering and payment system this year.
A new venue, the Fountain Square at Seongbukcheon Stream, will host a Nurimasil archive exhibition and performances.
Since 2022, Nurimasil has adopted reusable tableware and established itself as a zero-waste festival. Collection points for reusable dishes and recycling stations will be available throughout the venue.
The district will also continue its food price cap policy this year, limiting menu prices to 8,000 won or less to ease the financial burden on visitors.
More information is available through the festival's Instagram account.
District Mayor Lee Seung-ro said this year's slogan, "Taste the Earth Your Way," reflects the idea of enjoying the diverse flavors of world cuisine while thinking about the planet people share.
"We have prepared the festival so visitors can enjoy food, culture and the value of sustainability all at once, and we hope many people will take part," he said.
