SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Yonhap) – The 2023 Japanese animated film “The First Slam Dunk” has finally topped the South Korean box office 23 days after its release.

This animated film based on the legendary Japanese manga series “Slam Dunk” is doing some pretty decent numbers for itself, attracting more than 1,715,000 moviegoers so far, and rising to the top on the box office chart. The movie eventually went past South Korean action-drama film “The Point Men,” starring Hwang Jung-min and Hyun Bin, on Friday.

“The Point Men,” which has been leading the box office since its release on Jan. 18, fell to No.2 in 10 days.

James Cameron’s second venture to the epic Avatar franchise, “Avatar: The Way of Water” sat on No.3; Taiwanese film “Someday or One Day” based on the drama series of the same name, “Megan,” a horror film that was just dropped in the South Korean theaters this week, and “Phantom,” starring Seol Kyung-gu, Lee Hanee, and Park So-dam, ranked No.3 to No.6, respectively.

Director Yoon Je-kyun’s film “Hero,” which sat on No.7, attracted 3,001,000 moviegoers so far until Friday, hitting the 3 million mark in 37 days.

“Hero” will start screening the song-subtitled version for moviegoers to enjoy the work as a film based on a homegrown musical and will start to attract its last-minute viewers.
