At Donggureung, a cemetery for the royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty, in Guri-si, Gyeonggi-do, on the 6th, the Hansik day, or the 105th day after the winter solstice, tomb managers were seen cutting silver grass for Geonwonneung, the tomb of Taejo Yi Seong-gye, the founder of the Joseon Dynasty.
Legend has it that this tomb was planted with silver grass growing in Hamheung, his hometown, according to the will of Yi Seong-gye, unlike other tombs, which are usually covered with lawn grass. He passed away at the age of 74 on May 24, 1408.
On the Hansik (literally cold food) day, which is called cold food day because it is a day to eat cold food, in Korea, traditionally, "beolcho" to remove the weeds growing on and around the mound is performed. (Yonhap)
