SEOUL, Dec. 5 (Yonhap) -- Comedian Park Na-rae, who has been embroiled in allegations of mistreating her former managers, said Friday that the ex-managers have demanded hundreds of millions of won based on unfounded claims and that she will take legal action.
In a statement, her agency Anpark said, “Park Na-rae has suffered severe emotional distress and psychological shock due to the sudden resignations of the staff she worked with, the subsequent baseless allegations, escalating demands for money, and pressure exerted through the media.”
The agency claimed the former managers, who worked with Park for one year and three months, demanded additional compensation beyond their severance pay.
“Even after receiving their severance, they demanded an additional amount equivalent to 10 percent of last year’s sales,” Anpark said. “The requested sum gradually increased, eventually reaching the scale of hundreds of millions of won.”
The agency added, “As unnecessary misunderstandings and pressure continue, we can no longer comply with unilateral demands,” noting that it has decided to take necessary legal measures after conducting a legal review.
Regarding the allegations of verbal abuse and other forms of mistreatment, the agency stopped short of a full denial, saying instead that it is “currently verifying the exact facts” and will “faithfully clarify the matter and take appropriate steps going forward.”
Anpark also addressed controversy over delays in registering the agency as a talent management company under the popular culture and arts industry law, saying the task had been handled by the former managers and that false reports had been made.
A day earlier, it was reported that the former managers had filed to provisionally seize Park’s real estate and were preparing a damages lawsuit against her.
Park was also booked by police Friday on charges including special injury and alleged violations of the medical law and the popular culture industry law.
