SEOUL, Aug. 26 (Yonhap) -- Suga of BTS has once again issued an apology after being investigated by police for operating an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol.
In a handwritten letter posted on the fan community platform Weverse on the afternoon of the 25th, Suga expressed deep remorse, saying, "I deeply apologize for disappointing and hurting all those who love and support me due to my wrongful actions. I failed to live up to the responsibility of reciprocating the love I have received with appropriate behavior, and I committed a grave mistake."
According to the police, Suga is under investigation for driving an electric scooter on a road in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, at around 11:15 p.m. on the 6th while intoxicated, resulting in a fall. His blood alcohol concentration at the time was found to be 0.227%, exceeding the legal limit for license cancellation (0.08%).
After the incident became public, Suga reportedly told police that he had only consumed "about one beer," which drew criticism. Further, his initial apology referred to the vehicle as an "electric kickboard," leading to speculation that he was trying to downplay the severity of the situation.
Addressing this, Suga clarified, "I committed the mistake of riding an electric scooter on the sidewalk after drinking on the night of the 6th. I also apologize for the confusion caused by my hasty first apology posted on the 7th."
He continued, "I should have been more thoughtful and cautious, but I failed to do so. My recklessness has caused difficulty for everyone who cares about me. I will make every effort to live reflectively and avoid making such mistakes again."
Suga also stated, "This incident has cast a significant shadow over the precious memories I have created with my fellow members and fans, and I have tarnished the name of BTS. I deeply regret causing my members, who have always trusted me, to go through such a difficult time because of my actions."
He added, "I am filled with nothing but regret towards the fans who have always shown me overwhelming love despite my shortcomings. I know that no words can heal the disappointment and hurt the fans have felt, and I am deeply remorseful and reflective each day."
Suga concluded by saying, "I will fully accept any punishment or criticism that may come as a result of this incident. I sincerely apologize for causing public concern and disappointment."
Suga, who is currently serving as a social service worker, appeared at the Yongsan Police Station on the afternoon of the 23rd, where he was questioned for over three hours. The police plan to proceed with the license cancellation process for Suga while reviewing the investigation details to determine further action.
