SEOUL, Nov. 12 (Yonhap) -- All five members of girl group NewJeans have expressed their intent to return to their agency ADOR, a year after declaring the termination of their exclusive contracts in November last year.
ADOR announced on Tuesday that members Haerin and Hyein have decided to resume activities with the agency after discussions. Following their decision, Minji, Hanni, and Danielle also expressed their willingness to return, and ADOR is currently verifying their intentions.
In a statement released that afternoon, ADOR said, “NewJeans members Haerin and Hyein have conveyed their intention to continue their activities with ADOR.”
The agency added, “After careful consideration with their families and sufficient discussion with ADOR, the two members decided to respect the court’s ruling and comply with the terms of their exclusive contracts.”
The members of NewJeans had previously claimed their contracts with ADOR were terminated in November last year, citing the agency’s breach of contract, after ADOR rejected their demand for the reinstatement of former CEO Min Hee-jin, who had been dismissed following a conflict with HYBE.
ADOR maintained that its contracts with the members remained valid and filed a lawsuit in December of that year seeking confirmation of the contracts’ validity. The agency also filed an injunction to prevent the members from pursuing independent activities until a final ruling. The court sided with ADOR in both the injunction and the first trial.
ADOR stated, “We will do our utmost to ensure that Haerin and Hyein can continue their entertainment activities smoothly. We ask for fans’ warm support and respectfully request that they refrain from unfounded speculation about the members.”
About two and a half hours after ADOR’s announcement, Minji, Hanni, and Danielle also conveyed their intention to return to the agency.
In a statement to Yonhap News, the three members said, “After careful discussions, we have decided to return to ADOR.”
They added, “One member was in Antarctica, so communication was delayed, and as ADOR has not yet responded, we are announcing this separately. We will continue to meet fans through sincere music and performances.”
In response, ADOR said it is “in the process of verifying the sincerity of Minji, Hanni, and Danielle’s intention to return.”
