SEOUL, Sept. 7 (Yonhap) -- Singer and guitarist Lee Sang-soon, husband of singer Lee Hyo-ri, has temporarily suspended his radio show and other activities after being diagnosed with reduced vagus nerve function, a neurological condition.

 

His agency, Antenna, said Sunday on social media that Lee had recently received hospital treatment after a sudden decline in his condition. It said he is taking a temporary break from his radio show following doctors' advice that he needs to rest due to reduced vagus nerve function.

 

Lee had hosted "Perfect Day with Lee Sang-soon" every afternoon on MBC FM4U. He has not appeared on the show since Aug. 27, except for the Aug. 29 episode, which had been prerecorded, with another host filling in for him.

 

Antenna said it "will actively support the artist so that he can focus fully on his recovery" and that his upcoming schedule will be adjusted flexibly based on his overall recovery.

 

The vagus nerve is the 10th of the 12 pairs of cranial nerves and branches out to the heart, pharynx, vocal cords and internal organs, playing roles in the parasympathetic nervous system as well as sensory and motor functions. Reduced vagus nerve function is known to be associated with various symptoms of autonomic nervous system dysfunction, including indigestion, palpitations and chronic fatigue.

 

Lee also explained on social media that he had suddenly felt unwell last Wednesday, Aug. 26, making it difficult for him to host the radio show, and had since undergone various tests and consultations.

 

"I am still waiting for some additional detailed tests, but doctors have advised me to rest because of neurological symptoms related to reduced vagus nerve function," he said. "So I have no choice but to take a break from the radio show and rest."

 

He added, "I was told that I can gradually recover if I get enough rest, so I will take this opportunity to give myself sufficient time to fully recover and return in better health."

 

Lee, who has performed with bands Roller Coaster and Baby Blue, married Lee Hyo-ri in 2013.
