Dong Yi
This drama was released on 2010. The setting of the story is during the reign of King Sukjong (19th King) who ruled the Joseon Dynasty (played by Ji Jin Hee). The story focuses on Dong Yi (played by Han Hyo Joo, little Dong Yi played by Kim Yoo Jung), a music bureau maid whose job is to help with the music bureau and other heavy work in the palace (musuri) who later wins the trust of Queen Inhyeon (played by Park Ha Sun ). He was also liked by the king and was touched by the prayers he conveyed for the queen's health during the chaos caused by another concubine, Jang Hui-bin (played by Lee So Yeon). Dong Yi then became a concubine with the rank of Suk-Bin and gave birth to a son who would later become the 21st king of Joseon, Yeongjo.
Dong Yi is the daughter of Choi Hyo Won who is the head of the Swordsman Society (Geumgae). Her brother Choi Dong Joo is friends with Cha Cheon Soo (Baek Soo Bin) who will later help Dong Yi. Seo Yong Gi is a friend of Dong Yi's father, Seo Yong Gi's father died because of an assassination (which he said was planned by the Southern Faction). Seo Yong Gi is assigned to investigate his father's case. Geumgae formed by Choi Hyo Won is accused of killing Seo Yong Gi's father, so Seo Yong Gi must hunt down all the members of Geumgae and the daughter of its chairman, Dong Yi. All Geumgae members were executed by order of the king (because of murder charges), but there was one who escaped, namely Cha Cheon Soo who was going to save Dong Yi.
Dong Yi changes her name to Cheon Dong Yi, so as not to be caught by the soldiers. Actually, Dong Yi and Seo Yong Gi often meet but Seo Yong Gi doesn't recognize him while Dong Yi knows him (because they met during their childhood). Seo Yong Gi actually helps Dong Yi to become a concubine. Because of a service, Jang Hui Bin recommended her as gungnyeo (maid of honor) of the supervising bureau. At the supervisory bureau, Jeong Sang Gung (Jeong's matron) and Jung Im always helped her uphold the truth until she became the Grand Lady of the Palace (and later a concubine).
Dong Yi then became a concubine with her first rank being Suk-Won (4th level concubine) then after being exiled she became Suk-i (3rd level concubine) then Suk-khui (2nd level concubine) and was officially appointed (level) to Suk-Bin (1st level concubine) and gave birth to a son who would later become the 21st king of Joseon, Yeongjo.
Even though this drama has 60 episodes, it is definitely worth the time!
